Mobe Training :It is a complete no-brainer that you will need to have a brand for your small business. Or is it?

One important hack that I like to use with building my business is to look at what the big companies are doing on a global scale, and try to replicate that into my small business. One of these hacks is that all large companies have created a brand.

What Branding is… And is Not

Branding is not just the colors you choose and the design of your business logo – it is actually quite a bit more than that. It encompasses your ideologies, mantra, attitudes, and even your customer base. The brand has feelings attached to it, as well as a reputation about it.

Take a look at any industry and identify 2 companies – and you will notice their branding is different.

In shoes, look at the difference in Nike, Puma, and New Balance for example. Puma brands themselves around the “Euro” look and has deep ties to soccer; New Balance focuses on the runner and the ideal fit for different feet sizes, while Nike focuses on the fact that, well, they’re Nike and they think they’re the best option in every sport. Literally. That is their brand!

So, here are 3 ways to build a brand for your business

1. Your Brand is Human

Well, not really. But the point here is that you want to think of your brand as a person. And that person has an identity, feelings, an appearance, ideals, motive, and even an attitude. This is what is going to speak to your customers and how they will identify with you.

2. The Driving Motivation

This can sometimes be tied to your purpose or mission for your business. Many businesses were created for different reasons and with different motivating factors behind them. If you are in an online business, identify why you want to help people. Maybe it is tied to the feelings you had when you started and became a success. Use this driving motivation to tie into your brand.

3. Don’t be a Copy Cat

Your company or business should have its own brand. Far too often entrepreneurs try to be like somebody else and bring in traits from their favorite company. Your focus should be on building your own brand. Sometimes this can develop over a period and change from time to time, but make sure to avoid branding like someone else.

The key here is stop and take the time to actually figure out your brand. Once you accomplish this the other parts of your business will take shape and fall into place based the values of the brand.
